In Lydia’s mind, the litter was not only unsightly but also dangerous, creating breeding grounds for malaria-carrying mosquitoes. She decided to jump into action, leveraging skills she learned in The Trust’s Get Into program, which provides sector-specific knowledge and on-the-job experience.
So, she thought: Why not convert plastic waste into economic opportunity? Knowing that quarry workers in her community struggled to pay for life and disability insurance, she worked on a project during her job placement that would allow these workers to “buy” affordable insurance by collecting and recycling plastic bottles.
