We have transitioned to The King’s Trust USA. For any enquiries on our name change, please contact [email protected].
Our global programs enable young people to build the confidence, skills and experience they need to succeed in the future world of work.
Our Enterprise programs give young people the chance to explore starting their own business and equip budding entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed.
Our Employment programs support young people at all stages of their journey towards employment, including those who need extra help before they are ready to secure a job and those who are actively seeking work.
In Spring 2024, The King’s Trust USA and our delivery partner City Year supported over 200 young people across thirteen schools in Chicago, Detroit, and New York City through the Enterprise Challenge program. It culminated in the inaugural US Enterprise Challenge Finals in New York City, which brought together nearly 100 attendees to hear the business plans from each of the 2024 Regional Enterprise Challenge Winners.
Designed to increase students’ knowledge of ethical strategies and business concepts, Enterprise Challenge encourages and inspires a new generation of entrepreneurs through gamification and mentorship. Using a unique business simulation game, students not only develop entrepreneurial skills through realistic scenarios but also hone transferable soft skills including creative thinking, decision making, teamwork and communication.
By focusing on social enterprise and sustainability, students are encouraged to think about innovative solutions to modern societal, environmental or economic problems, and the role of enterprise in addressing these issues. The business simulation game and pitch competition also build young people’s transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem solving.
The Enterprise Challenge has already been delivered to over 300 young people in New York, Chicago, and Detroit. With the success of these pilot programs The King’s Trust USA is expanding its partnership with City Year to new cities in 2024 and 2025.
We would like to thank The Watches of Switzerland Group for being our founding corporate partner of these programs.
In Spring 2024, we expanded our programmatic offerings to include The King’ s Trust employability program, Get Hired, and The King’s Trust Development Awards. In their pilot year, we provided these programs to AmeriCorps members supporting the delivery of Enterprise Challenge who are considering the next steps in their careers beyond their year of service.
The Get Hired program is aimed at young people who may be struggling to secure employment through a traditional recruitment process, addressing the power imbalance between young people and employers. Get Hired transfers the focus away from traditional shortlisting practice, such as having an emphasis on qualifications and previous experience, and more onto the young person’s inter-personal skills and attitude. Barriers to gaining an interview are thereby reduced.
Prior to the Get Hired event, young people attend a Preparation Day(s) where young people have the chance to practice their interview skills with corporate volunteers, learn how to research companies before attending interviews and prepare themselves for the real interviews at the Get Hired event.
At the Get Hired event itself, employers with live roles begin the day by delivering elevator pitches to the young people about why their company is a great place to work and why they should select them to interview with. Once the pitches are complete the candidates choose the three that they would most like to interview and for the rest of the day these interviews are carried out.
After Get Hired, the feedback from the employers for each candidate is collated and given to the young people. If they have more than one job offer, or we support them to weigh up the offers and choose the job which is the best fit for them. After securing their new role, The King’s Trust USA will give them a Development Award of $500 dollars to remove barriers which may hinder their ability to take on the role, for example by purchasing professional clothing for their new workplace or by funding their travel to work.
The Trust was founded on the vision that every young person should have the chance to succeed – a vision that remains unchanged today.
