With the right support in place, confidence can take root. 🌱 That was the experience of 23-year-old Amirul, a biodiversity student in Malaysia. After graduating during the pandemic, he struggled to gain hands-on experience doing environmental fieldwork. But then he got a chance to participate in Team, an intensive personal development program offered by The King’s Trust International. During the program, Amirul became more comfortable suggesting his own ideas. When it came time to design and implement a community project, he worked up the courage to suggest that the group plant mangrove trees in a coastal area vulnerable to flooding. The project was a huge success, allowing Amirul to secure a work experience placement with a forestry conservation organization. From there, he was able to make vital connections in the environmental sector and secure his first job in a field that he loves.
