Women’s Economic Empowerment

In response to the increased challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and cost-of-living crisis, The King’s Trust global network launched a global women’s campaign with the goal of raising $20 million over five years.

These funds will be used to advance the economic empowerment of young women around the world as this has a transformative and long-lasting impact on themselves, their families, and their communities.

In the US, we plan to leverage these funds to:

  • Establish a seed fund for female-founded businesses emerging from the delivery of Enterprise Challenge programs in US schools.
  • Develop a business mentoring program.
  • Achieve gender parity in our program delivery.
  • Create a Development Award fund to provide grants to help young women facing practical barriers with funding for items such as laptops, childcare, qualifications, or travel.

With your investment, we can offer a brighter future for thousands of young women around the world and build a powerful global legacy for generations.

BRITNEY

Barbados

The Explore Enterprise program played a key role in supporting Britney to build the business and finance knowledge she needed to get her company, Thee Honest Skincare Company, off the ground. Britney’s five-year plan is ambitious.

Not only does she want to build on her online trade to eventually open a retail space, Britney also sees her range of all natural skincare products being sold through distribution channels that cross over with her target market, such as gyms.

ARTI

India

With few earnings options in her village, young mother Arti joined Project Lehar, run by the Aga Khan Foundation with support from King’s Trust International. Lehar offers vocational training, entrepreneurship and life skills courses for girls and young women from low-income backgrounds. Lehar introduced Arti to the Indian government’s Pink Rickshaw scheme, an initiative to provide rickshaws for female passengers, with female drivers. Today, Arti works as a self-employed rickshaw driver, enabling other women to travel safely and earning enough to provide for her daughter. In May 2024, Arti won the prestigious Amal Clooney Women’s Empowerment Award for her determined efforts to drive change.

JEKATERINA

Northern Ireland

After coming to Northern Ireland from
Lithuania at 18 and having children soon afterwards, Jekaterina was determined to find a career she enjoyed and signed up to college. It was there she first found her passion for floristry. With support from the Enterprise program and her Trust mentor she has recently opened her own flower shop. She credits The King’s Trust with helping to develop her business knowledge, including how to write a business plan and set pricing for her arrangements.
